Onvis launches Matter over Thread outdoor smart plug

Onvis has released a new outdoor smart plug that utilizes the Matter over Thread standard. The device features IP65 weather resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use such as landscape lighting or holiday decorations.

Because it uses the Thread mesh protocol, the plug offers potentially more reliable connectivity in outdoor areas where Wi-Fi signals may be weak. The device supports real-time energy monitoring, allowing users to track power consumption directly through Matter-compatible smart home systems like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings.

The plug can handle up to 1800 watts and is designed to work natively across multiple ecosystems without requiring a proprietary hub, though Apple users will require a HomePod or Apple TV 4K to utilize the Thread functionality.
