Ooni of Ife pledges peace support to INEC ahead of Osun governorship election

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, met with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, at the Ile Oodua Palace. The traditional ruler reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and condemning electoral violence as the August 2026 Osun governorship election approaches. He urged voters to participate responsibly, warned youths against being used as instruments of violence, and promised to lend his influence to ensure a free, fair and credible poll. In response, INEC highlighted its preparations, including the identification of flashpoints and voter‑education efforts, and thanked the Ooni for his partnership in safeguarding the election’s integrity.
