Oosterhout and Rekken host live art and pop‑up museum events
On 9 May 2026 the Arendshof shopping centre in Oosterhout transformed into a stage for the Living Statues Festival, organised by foundation STOOF. Artists posed as motion‑less statues that came to life with a gentle touch or a coin placed in their bowls, offering brief movements, smiles or short acts. The free event, running from 11:00 to 16:00, invited visitors of all ages to interact with the performers.
From 5 to 7 June, the Antonius Meeting Centre in Rekken hosted the pop‑up museum EXPO17. The former church was turned into an exhibition that recreated life in the 17th‑century border village, highlighting poverty, religious tension and local conflicts. Through a guided mediatour, visitors met historical figures such as the fictional Anna van Recken, saw period objects like a historic communion cup and an original Statenbijbel, and explored the vanished manor Van Merveldt. Entrance was free with a voluntary contribution.
Both events aimed to make history and performance art accessible and engaging for the public.
