OPEKA announces annual income support for Greek mountainous regions

The Organization of Providencial Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA) provides annual income support to families residing in mountainous and disadvantaged regions of Greece. The benefit, typically paid on August 31, ranges from 300 to 600 euros depending on the annual family income.

Families with an annual income up to 3,000 euros receive the maximum amount of 600 euros, while those with an income between 3,000.01 and 4,700 euros receive 300 euros. Eligible recipients include families, including single-parent households, with or without minor children. At least one family member must be a citizen of Greece, the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland.

A key requirement is that family members must have had a certified permanent residence in a mountainous or disadvantaged area for at least two years prior to the application. New applications can be submitted electronically via the gov.gr portal using Taxisnet credentials between September 1 and October 30. Once approved, the status is automatically renewed for subsequent years provided the criteria continue to be met.
