Open Cosmos secures €300 million to expand satellite manufacturing
Open Cosmos, a European satellite manufacturer and operator, has secured €300 million ($348 million) in a Series C funding round, achieving a unicorn valuation of over $1 billion. The round was led by European investors, including Lightrock and ETF Partners, with participation from the Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First, and several international pension funds.
The capital injection is intended to scale the company’s mass-manufacturing capabilities for satellites and accelerate the deployment of its proprietary space infrastructure. Key projects include ConnectedCosmos, a sovereign Ka-band broadband constellation in Low Earth Orbit; OpenConstellation, which provides Earth observation data; and DataCosmos.
With four factories across Europe, including sites in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, and Greece, the company currently possesses the capacity to manufacture one satellite per day. Open Cosmos serves a diverse client base including governments, space agencies, and large-scale energy and infrastructure corporations. The funding also supports expansion in engineering, manufacturing, and software development, particularly within its operations in Barcelona and Greece.
