Open Finance and AI drive transformation in Brazil's banking sector

Open Finance in Brazil is transforming the financial landscape by shifting data ownership to consumers, allowing for increased interoperability and competition between traditional banks and fintechs. Under the regulation of the Central Bank of Brazil, users can authorize the sharing of their financial history, including income, investments, and credit data, to facilitate more personalized services.

According to the Febraban Banking Technology Survey 2026 by Deloitte, 92% of surveyed banks view Open Finance as a significant opportunity for data access, with 85% intending to use this information to improve targeted customer campaigns. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to play a crucial role in interpreting these datasets to identify behavioral patterns and consumer needs. Brazilian banks are projected to invest approximately R$3 billion in AI, analytics, and big data in 2026, marking an 8% increase from the previous year.

This structural shift is also impacting credit markets by reducing information asymmetry. Access to transactional and payment histories allows institutions to build more precise risk scoring models, potentially leading to personalized pricing and lower interest rates. As a result, traditional institutions are increasing technology investments to maintain competitiveness in an environment where customer loyalty is increasingly driven by efficiency and value delivery.
