OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says AI has been net job‑creating so far

OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman posted on X that he is “pretty sure” artificial intelligence has been a net creator of jobs to date, a view that runs counter to earlier expectations of widespread layoffs. He said the current level of AI capability has not yet displaced workers and that the trend of AI‑driven employment growth is likely to continue.

Altman’s comment follows earlier warnings about rapid job impacts and mirrors a shift expressed by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who now describes automation as a productivity multiplier rather than a job killer. Analysts note mixed evidence: AI has spawned roles in development, data annotation and related services, while productivity gains remain modest and longer‑term effects are still uncertain.
