AI industry faces GPT-6 rollout and major copyright lawsuits

The generative AI landscape is undergoing rapid technical and legal shifts. OpenAI has announced the rollout of its GPT-6 model to all users, including free tiers, introducing ‘Intelligent UI’ which allows the chatbot to incorporate interactive elements like graphs, buttons, and forms into its responses.

Legal challenges regarding AI training data are intensifying. Argentina-based publisher Editorial Perfil has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging copyright infringement and unfair competition. The publisher argues that AI models use journalistic content without compensation, following similar legal actions taken by The New York Times and Folha de São Paulo.

Technically, the relationship between traditional SEO and AI visibility is evolving. Research indicates that while high Google rankings and AI-generated citations are linked, they are not identical; brands can rank well in search engines but remain absent from AI-driven answers. Additionally, data shows that ChatGPT performs web searches for only about 14.4% of queries, often relying on its internal training data to manage costs.

In academia, the widespread adoption of AI tools—estimated at up to 85% among undergraduates—is prompting institutions to study the impact on academic integrity and research ethics.
