OpenAI reports criminal plots to law enforcement

OpenAI has intervened in multiple criminal plots by reporting suspicious user activity to law enforcement agencies.

In Brazil, a 36-year-old farmer was arrested after ChatGPT's security systems detected and reported detailed plans to kill his eight-year-old son and himself. The AI flagged the conversation, prompting OpenAI to alert the FBI, which then coordinated with Brazilian authorities to make an arrest just one day before the planned attack.

In a separate incident in Florida, a man in his 20s was arrested after ChatGPT identified and reported his specific plans to murder an ex-girlfriend. The user had detailed his intentions to use firearms and provided information regarding the victim's location and habits. OpenAI's detection of these harmful patterns led to the report to the FBI, resulting in the individual's arrest.
