OpenAI opens new European hub in Madrid to boost AI collaboration
OpenAI announced the establishment of an operational hub in Madrid, adding to its existing offices in Munich, Brussels, Paris and London. The new centre will deepen cooperation with Spanish universities, developers, enterprises and the public sector, providing direct support for AI research and deployment.
Company officials said Spain is one of the most dynamic AI markets in Europe, noting a 40 % year‑on‑year rise in weekly active users and strong interest from banks, insurers and educational institutions. The Spanish government welcomed the move, with the vice‑president for Economy and the minister for Digital Transformation highlighting the country’s skilled workforce, competitive energy costs and regulatory framework that encourages responsible AI development.
OpenAI plans to hire local staff for client, technical and public‑policy roles and aims to help Spanish organisations adopt its tools such as ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex, citing recent pilots at BBVA, Santander and several universities.
