OpenAI to comply with Trump AI oversight order amid public investment talks

OpenAI announced it will adhere to the executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump that requires artificial‑intelligence firms to give the federal government access to new models at least 30 days before commercial release. The order aims to let regulators assess advanced, so‑called “frontier” models for safety and national‑security risks. OpenAI’s head of international affairs, George Osmbourne, confirmed the company’s cooperation while speaking at the SXSW festival in London.

At the same time, Trump indicated the White House is evaluating a proposal for the U.S. public sector to take equity stakes in leading AI companies. The president said a summit with senior industry officials is planned for next week, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has expressed support for deeper government‑industry collaboration.
