Opera browser introduces automatic VPN activation for public Wi-Fi
Opera has announced an update to its desktop browser that allows its integrated free VPN to activate automatically when it detects a public or unsecured Wi-Fi network. This feature aims to eliminate the need for manual activation, which many users often forget to perform when connecting to networks in locations like airports or cafes.
The service remains free, requires no account creation, and has no data limits. To ensure privacy standards, the VPN follows a no-logs policy that has been independently verified by Deloitte and complies with GDPR. While the automatic activation feature is currently rolling out in the United States and France, a broader global release is planned for the future.
Arjan van Leeuwen, head of engineering for Opera One, stated that online privacy should be a natural occurrence rather than a task that must be remembered every time a user connects to a public network.
