Opera houses announce 2026-27 performance seasons

Major opera houses have announced their upcoming 2026-27 seasons, featuring a variety of classical masterworks and new commissions.

Washington Concert Opera will celebrate its 40th anniversary season at Lisner Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The program includes Joseph Haydn’s ‘Armida’, starring soprano Lauren Snouffer, and Jules Massenet’s ‘Don Quichotte’, scheduled for March 2027.

In the United States, the Metropolitan Opera will present ‘Lincoln in the Bardo’, a commissioned work by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek based on the George Saunders novel. In Italy, Teatro alla Scala will begin its season under new Music Director Myung-Whun Chung with a production of Verdi’s ‘Otello’ directed by Damiano Michieletto.
