Opole ranks second in Polish municipal wealth index, announces 2.2 bn‑zł Kumho Tire factory

Opole has placed second in the nationwide ranking of municipal wealth compiled by the bi‑weekly "Wspólnota" magazine, trailing only the capital Warsaw. The city’s mayor, Arkadiusz Wiśniewski, attributed the result to extensive public investment, noting that the municipal budget has exceeded 2.4 billion zł since 2015, with more than 1.3 billion zł in EU grants.

In parallel with the ranking, the South Korean tyre manufacturer Kumho Tire confirmed that its new European production plant will be built in Opole. The factory will have an annual capacity of six million tyres, require an investment of about 2.2 billion zł, and is expected to create up to 500 jobs. The project is scheduled to begin later this year, reinforcing Opole’s growing role as a regional industrial hub.

The city also highlighted recent infrastructure upgrades, including the Itaka Arena stadium and a new public‑service centre, underscoring its strategy of combining modern facilities with traditional cultural appeal.
