Opposition leaders accuse Enforcement Directorate of political targeting

Opposition leaders in India have accused central investigative agencies, specifically the Enforcement Directorate (ED), of being used for political targeting against members of the Congress and other opposition parties.

In Kerala, former CPM leader TK Govindan alleged that the ED’s attempt to register an FIR against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is a politically motivated move designed to create divisions within the INDIA bloc. Govindan claimed the action lacks factual evidence and aims to isolate Vijayan and weaken the opposition alliance.

In Karnataka, Minister MB Patil and Minister UT Khader have similarly accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing the ED and Income Tax Department to intimidate Congress leaders. Patil suggested these operations are used to coerce politicians into switching allegiances, citing previous cases in Maharashtra as examples of this strategy.
