Opposition leaders target UP government ahead of 2027 elections
Opposition leaders in Uttar Pradesh are intensifying their criticism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Azad Samaj Party chief and MP Chandrashekhar Azad accused the Yogi Adityanath-led government of creating “false facades” by announcing new vacancies and distributing appointment letters to sway voters. Azad highlighted a significant backlog of approximately 4.5 to 5 lakh unfilled positions and criticized the administration for the lack of employment opportunities over the last nine and a half years.
Simultaneously, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav outlined a strategic target for the 2027 polls, aiming to reduce the BJP's vote count by 27,000 per assembly seat. Yadav criticized the state government regarding farmers' rights, alleging that land acquisition has not followed correct circle rates and citing land scams in Ayodhya. He also accused the BJP of vandalizing more than 151 statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
