Oral Cancer Day drives free screenings in Rieti and Viterbo, Italy

On May 16, 2026, the national Oral Cancer Day campaign organized by the volunteer dentists' association ANDI took place in the central Italian cities of Rieti and Viterbo. In Rieti, the event was held at the Perseo shopping centre with support from the local LILT branch, the ASL Rieti otorhinolaryngology unit and the Department of Odontostomatological and Maxillofacial Sciences of Sapienza University. Free oral‑cancer screening desks were set up for citizens to book follow‑up appointments.

In Viterbo, a gazebo was erected in Piazza dei Caduti where volunteers provided information, administered screening questionnaires and arranged free dental visits at participating practices. The campaign highlighted the rising incidence of oral cancer in Italy—about 5,000 new cases each year—and promoted primary prevention, including HPV vaccination. After the one‑day event, free screenings will continue across participating ANDI practices nationwide through June 19, with appointments booked via a dedicated website.
