Oral health initiatives marked in Dominican Republic and Cuba

In the Dominican Republic, the Santiago City Hall received the Commemorative Torch for the Centenary of Dominican Oral Health. This initiative, led by the Dominican College of Dentists (CDO), is traveling through various provinces to mark 100 years of the institution's history and its contributions to scientific research and professional training.

Vice-Mayor Mariana Moreno emphasized that oral health must be an integral part of municipal primary care strategies, aligning with World Health Organization recommendations to move beyond curative dentistry toward prevention and education. She highlighted the importance of integrating dental care into schools and community centers.

In Cuba, the province of Granma is conducting activities to observe Latin American Dentistry Day. Health professionals are focusing on oral health promotion and disease prevention, particularly through educational interventions in schools and maternal homes. A key priority is stomatological care for pregnant women to mitigate risks such as periodontal disease, which can impact both mother and child.
