Orange County police sweep results in 69 arrests
Law enforcement agencies in Orange County, California, conducted a large-scale sweep targeting homeless encampments and transient-related issues in the cities of Orange and Santa Ana. The operation, which included the Orange Police Department Bike Team and the Santa Ana Police Department, resulted in 69 arrests, consisting of 53 misdemeanors and 16 felonies.
In addition to the arrests, officials provided 10 outreach and resource referrals. Following the enforcement action, the Bike Team cleaned up encampments located along the Santiago Creek bed near Hart Park. The crackdown follows a fatal shooting at Hart Park in early August involving an individual on parole.
While the operation aimed to address quality-of-life concerns and enhance neighborhood safety, community reactions have been mixed, with some residents calling for increased mental health support and resources for those detained.
