Ordu patoz operators earn 6,000 TL per hour during hazelnut harvest

In Ordu, patoz operators—workers who use machines to shell hazelnuts—are earning 6,000 TL per hour during the current harvest season. This represents a significant increase from the 4,500 TL hourly rate recorded last year.

The work is characterized by intense labor and difficult conditions. Operators typically work for approximately 50 days a year, often maintaining shifts of up to 20 hours per day in dusty and hot environments. The hazelnut harvest in coastal regions officially commenced on August 10.

Patoz owner Ahmet Yasin Sönmez reported that the hazelnut crop is plentiful this year, though he noted a desire for lower diesel prices. The work is a multi-generational profession in the Black Sea region.
