Oregon football faces quarterback uncertainty and player legal issues
The Oregon Ducks football program is navigating significant personnel challenges ahead of their matchup against Illinois. Starting quarterback Dante Moore remains sidelined for a third consecutive game due to a concussion sustained on September 26. While Moore was recently named a finalist for the 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy, his absence has forced a rotation between Dylan Raiola and Brock Thomas. Raiola, who recently led a fourth-quarter comeback against Nebraska, has noted that Moore’s experience in film sessions continues to assist the quarterback room despite his inability to play.
Off the field, the program is dealing with legal matters involving multiple players. Wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested in Springfield on a DUI charge. Additionally, tight end Jamari Johnson was cited for speeding on the same night as Stewart’s arrest. Head coach Dan Lanning stated that the program will handle disciplinary actions internally, noting that Stewart’s conduct did not meet team standards.
On the field, the Ducks' offense has struggled with consistency, averaging significantly fewer yards per game compared to the previous season. Despite a recent 17-14 victory over Nebraska, coaching staff evaluations regarding offensive identity and play-calling continue.
