By Oct. 14, Moore was officially ruled out for the game against Nebraska, marking his second consecutive game sidelined. In Moore’s absence, head coach Dan Lanning has initiated an open competition to determine the starting quarterback. The competition includes Dylan Raiola, who started against UCLA in a 17-15 loss, and Brock Thomas, who recorded 149 passing yards and a touchdown in relief during that same game. Akili Smith Jr. has also been receiving repetitions. As of Oct. 20, the Ducks face continued instability at quarterback heading into their matchup against Illinois. While Moore has participated in practices and is a finalist for the 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy, he remains unavailable for game action. In a recent 17-14 win over Nebraska, walk-on redshirt junior Brock Thomas started but struggled with 54 passing yards, before Dylan Raiola entered in the fourth quarter to lead a game-winning drive. Raiola noted that Moore’s presence in film sessions continues to assist the quarterback room despite his inability to play. On Oct. 27, head coach Dan Lanning announced that Moore is not expected to return to the field for the remainder of the 2026 season.
