Oregon fisherman rescued after using Siri to call 911
Joseph Little, a 28-year-old fisherman, was rescued after being trapped beneath a large boulder at Hammond Marina near Astoria, Oregon. The incident occurred while Little was fishing alone; a boulder broke loose and pinned him down.
Because the location was below the tide line, Little faced the immediate threat of drowning. Although he could not reach his mobile phone, he was able to use the voice assistant Siri through his Bluetooth earbuds to call 911.
Emergency responders, including the Warrenton Fire Department and local police, located him using vehicle horns and drones. Due to the unstable terrain, the U.S. Coast Guard was called to perform a helicopter extraction. Little sustained severe facial injuries, including a broken jaw, and underwent an eight-hour reconstructive surgery. He is currently reported to be in stable condition.
