Oregon fisherman rescued after using Siri to call for help while pinned by rock
A 28-year-old fisherman, Joseph Little, was rescued after being pinned under a one-ton rock while fishing near Warrenton, Oregon. The accident occurred when rocks shifted near a pier, trapping Little by his torso and legs below the high-tide line.
Unable to reach his mobile phone, Little used the voice command feature on his headphones to activate Siri, requesting emergency assistance. The call was routed through the Department of Homeland Security to the U.S. Coast Guard. A local drone located him approximately 120 meters from the coast within minutes of the call.
Because the rock was too heavy for firefighters to lift, rescuers opted to remove the surrounding rocks to free him. The U.S. Coast Guard airlifted Little via helicopter to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria. He sustained multiple facial fractures and underwent reconstructive surgery. His family has launched a fundraising campaign to assist with his ongoing medical recovery.
