Oregon sets record wildfire acreage amid overlapping hunting season

Oregon has set a new statewide wildfire record, with more than 2.3 million acres burned in 2026. This total surpasses previous records dating back to the 1990s. In the Pacific Northwest, the overlap of hunting season and wildfire season has prompted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to urge extreme caution from visitors. Fire restrictions remain in place through September 30 for Washington and Oregon. Officials emphasize that following local restrictions is critical to preventing human-caused fires that strain emergency resources.

Currently, approximately 63% of United States firefighting resources are concentrated in Oregon and Washington to combat the ongoing crisis.
