Oregon State Police seek help identifying elk poacher

The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is seeking public assistance to identify those responsible for poaching a bull elk in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The incident occurred along the Elk Creek Trail, east of Burger Pass, likely on the evening of September 10 or the morning of September 11.

According to authorities, the elk was gutted, and its head and antlers were removed, but all the meat was left to waste. Investigators believe the individual may have been participating in the Eagle Cap Zone archery elk hunt.

Officials are urging anyone who was hunting, hiking, or horse packing near the Buck Creek Trailhead or Elk Creek Trail during that timeframe to contact the Turn in Poachers hotline. Tips can be provided anonymously.
