Oregon elk poaching investigations

Overview

The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division has launched investigations into multiple incidents of elk poaching across the state.

In early October, authorities sought public assistance to identify individuals responsible for poaching a bull elk in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The animal was found gutted with its head and antlers removed, while the meat was left to waste. Investigators suggested the perpetrator may have been involved in the Eagle Cap Zone archery elk hunt.

Following this, investigations expanded to include the unlawful killing of a trophy-class six-point bull elk in Grant County, believed to have been shot with a rifle between October 9 and October 11. Additionally, reports emerged regarding a bull elk killing in Yamhill County on October 15. Authorities continue to urge the public to provide anonymous tips through the Turn-in-Poachers program.
