Oren Shachar hospice fraud trial set for August 11

A federal trial is scheduled to begin on August 11 in Los Angeles involving Oren David Shachar and co-defendant Abraham Shin. The case centers on allegations of a sprawling hospice fraud scheme involving four Southern California providers.

Prosecutors intend to examine over five years of Medicare claims, hospice eligibility decisions, electronic medical records, and corporate banking activity. The evidence may include clinical charts, beneficiary histories, and referral communications to support the government’s theory of a coordinated scheme.

Shachar has pleaded not guilty to sixteen counts, while Shin has pleaded not guilty to seven counts. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless the prosecution establishes the required elements of the charged offenses beyond a reasonable doubt.
