ORF announces 2027 programming strategy and Formula 1 update
The Austrian public broadcaster ORF has unveiled its 2027 programming strategy, titled ‘Für Österreich’ (For Austria). The plan focuses on four pillars: trust, diversity, platform, and reach. Director General Ingrid Thurnher emphasized the importance of providing high-quality content despite challenging economic conditions and the rise of AI-generated disinformation. Starting January 1, 2027, Clemens Pig will take over as Director General to lead the broadcaster's evolution within the Austrian media market.
In terms of sports broadcasting, ORF has reached a new agreement with Servus TV regarding Formula 1 rights. The cooperation will continue until 2029, but the distribution of races will change. Starting in 2027, Servus TV will broadcast 13 races per season, while ORF will broadcast 11. The ORF coverage will continue to feature Alex Wurz and Ernst Hausleitner, and will include the Austrian Grand Prix.
