Organ and tissue donations at Bistrița Hospital enable multiple transplants
Two families in Bistrița consented to donate organs from their deceased relatives, allowing a coordinated transplant operation at the Bistrița Emergency County Clinical Hospital. From a 64‑year‑old male in brain death, the liver, both kidneys and corneas were recovered; from an 85‑year‑old female, the liver and corneas were retrieved. The organs will be allocated to patients on national waiting lists for liver, kidney and corneal transplants. The procedure was carried out jointly by teams from Bistrița Hospital and specialist centres in Cluj and Bucharest, including the Institute of Urology and Renal Transplant (Cluj), the Octavian Fodor Gastroenterology Institute (Cluj), the Fundeni Clinical Institute (Bucharest) and the Bucharest Ophthalmology Emergency Hospital. Officials thanked the donor families and the medical staff for their professionalism and coordination, emphasizing the life‑saving impact of organ donation.
