Organ donation from 29-year-old saves six lives in Greece

The family of a 29-year-old man in Athens has donated his organs, providing a ‘gift of life’ to six different recipients following his unexpected death from a massive cerebral hemorrhage.

Under the supervision of the National Transplant Organization (EOM), a complex medical operation was coordinated across multiple institutions. The donor's heart and lungs were sent to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center for a 20-year-old patient suffering from end-stage heart and lung disease. His liver was transported to Italy for transplantation, while his kidneys were sent to patients with end-stage renal disease in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Additionally, his corneas were transferred to the Gennimatas General Hospital Eye Bank for compatible recipients. The administration of the Errikos Dyunan Hospital expressed profound gratitude to the family for their decision during a time of immense grief.
