Organization of American States monitors second-round presidential elections in Colombia and Peru

Colombia’s Interior Minister Armando Benedetti met with the Organization of American States (OAS) election‑observation mission to review institutional guarantees and security measures ahead of the country’s runoff scheduled for 21 June. The meeting focused on ensuring a transparent, safe voting process and the role of observers in safeguarding citizen participation across the nation.

In Peru, the OAS electoral observation mission urged the country’s special electoral jurors to expedite the processing of about 800 observed actas after a tight runoff between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sánchez. With 99.14 % of votes counted, the mission highlighted the need for expanded capacity and faster work schedules, recommended a digital transmission system for rapid preliminary results, and noted no irregularities compromising the election’s integrity.

Both missions emphasized the importance of swift, transparent results and the continuation of democratic standards in the region’s presidential runoffs.
