Orient Cable installs China's first 66 kV dynamic cable for floating wind
Orient Cable (NBO) has completed the design, supply and installation of a 66 kV dynamic subsea cable for China Three Gorges (CTG) Corporation’s 16 MW floating wind demonstration platform, Sanxia Linghang, located more than 70 km off Yangjiang, Guangdong. The cable is described as the first of its kind for floating wind applications in China and is built to endure extreme wave heights over 20 m and a service life of 25 years in harsh marine conditions.
The Sanxia Linghang platform, installed on 2 May, features a 252‑m rotor diameter turbine, a semi‑submersible floating foundation and a new mooring system, with water depths exceeding 50 m. It is intended to demonstrate the viability of large‑scale floating wind technology in the region and to support future offshore wind developments.
The installation marks a milestone for China’s offshore wind sector, showcasing advanced cable technology and expanding the country’s renewable‑energy infrastructure.
