Orihuela and Ereño expand municipal defibrillator networks

The Orihuela City Council is expanding its municipal network of semi-automatic external defibrillators (AED) by adding seven new outdoor units across various coastal and rural areas. Four devices are already operational in La Aparecida, Entrenaranjos, Desamparados, and Playa Flamenca, while three more will be installed in Hurchillo, Arneva, and Raiguero de Bonanza in the coming weeks.

This expansion will bring the total number of operational devices in Orihuela to 53. The current network includes equipment in municipal buildings, outdoor spaces, and mobile units located in Local Police and Civil Protection vehicles. Councillor Víctor Valverde emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure rapid access to life-saving equipment during the critical first minutes of a cardiopulmonary arrest.

In a separate local initiative, the municipality of Ereño has also upgraded its cardiac rescue capabilities. The town has invested in new generation AEDs that are suitable for both adults and minors. This includes a new rescue point in the Gabika neighborhood and the replacement of older equipment near the City Hall, supported by training for local residents in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
