Orix Buffaloes resume practice following death of rookie Shikira Nogami
The Orix Buffaloes farm team resumed collective practice on October 3 at their Maishima facility in Osaka, marking the first group training session in four days following the sudden death of rookie catcher Shikira Nogami.
Nogami, 19, passed away on September 30. According to team manager Naoyuki Kazaoka, Nogami had been working hard on individual practice as recently as the afternoon of September 29. During the resumed practice, players and staff held a moment of silence to honor his memory.
To support the players, the club announced it will provide mental health care through external counselors before the Miyazaki Phoenix League begins on October 7. The team aims to move forward while providing maximum care for the physical and mental well-being of the athletes.
