Orizaba-Puebla highway accidents lead to cargo looting and driver death

A series of incidents occurred on the Orizaba-Puebla highway near Esperanza, Puebla, involving a truck rollover and a driver's death.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, a Freightliner tractor-trailer carrying groceries overturned at kilometer 224 of the 150D highway. The accident, suspected to be caused by speeding during a descent, resulted in significant material damage but no injuries. Following the crash, local residents and motorists reportedly emptied the truck's cargo within minutes before authorities arrived. The National Guard and CAPUFE paramedics attended the scene to manage traffic and secure the area.

In a separate but related event near kilometer 227, a truck driver for Transportes Royal died of a heart attack. The driver was stuck in traffic congestion caused by the earlier accident at kilometer 224. While attempting to exit his vehicle to seek medical assistance, the driver lost consciousness and fell from the unit. Emergency responders confirmed he had no vital signs upon arrival.
