Orlando Bloom and Mara sisters spark debate over film scene

Orlando Bloom, Rooney Mara, and Kate Mara are facing public debate following the premiere of the film ‘Bucking Fastard’ at the San Sebastián Film Festival. The controversy centers on an intimate scene involving Bloom and the Mara sisters, who are real-life siblings, playing twin characters in the film.

During the festival, Bloom described the sequence as a ‘very sincere sort of moment’ that highlights the simplicity and innocence of the characters. Director Werner Herzog supported this view, stating that he chose to step back during filming to allow the actors to build the scene naturally, describing the result as having ‘charm and depth.’

While some viewers defended the scene as professional acting, others on social media platforms like Reddit and X criticized the premise as ‘weird’ or ‘unethical.’ The film is loosely inspired by the real-life story of British twins Freda and Greta Chaplin from the 1980s.
