Orleans Brandão campaigns for Maranhão governorship, vows popular restaurant

Orleans Brandão (MDB) has become the government‑aligned candidate for the governorship of Maranhão after breaking with the group linked to former governor Flávio Dino. He said his name entered the race only after legal disputes and attacks on Governor Carlos Brandão intensified, and he attempted, without success, to negotiate a reconciliation with Dino’s allies.

During a public meeting in the Divinéia neighbourhood of São Luís, attended by about two thousand residents, Brandão pledged to open a Popular Restaurant in the Olho d’Água area to serve families in vulnerability. He also highlighted recent state infrastructure projects – such as the extension of Avenida Litorânea and improvements to local mobility – and promised further investments in water supply, sanitation, security, street lighting, school renovations and cultural initiatives, especially support for reggae.
