Orleans Brandão rallies support in São Luís ahead of Maranhão governorship bid

A political gathering was held on 9 May in the João Paulo neighbourhood of São Luís, Brazil, to showcase support for Orleans Brandão’s pre‑candidacy for governor of Maranhão. The meeting, organised at the Boi da Lua venue and led by city councilor Antônio Garcês, drew local and state politicians including federal deputy‑candidate Tharcianne Garcês, state deputy Guilherme Paz, deputy‑candidate Túlio Rezende and mayor Kelson Carvalho of Tasso Fragoso.

Brandão praised the community’s reception and highlighted past projects such as street paving, the refurbishment of Praça Duque de Caxias and the opening of a popular restaurant. He pledged further investments, promising a more structured market for traders, solutions for public‑transport challenges and the long‑awaited establishment of a UPA health centre in João Paulo. Attendees described him as a youthful, experienced leader capable of advancing the state’s development.

The event underscored Brandão’s growing political momentum in Maranhão ahead of the upcoming state elections.
