Orlen begins gas production from new Norwegian Sea fields
Orlen Upstream Norway has officially commenced natural gas extraction from the Idun Nord field in the Norwegian Sea. The company expects to launch production from two additional fields, Alve Nord and Ørn, within the coming weeks.
These new assets are expected to provide Orlen with more than 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The project, located in the Skarv area, was completed one year ahead of schedule due to efficient coordination with partners. The total resources for the three fields are estimated at 120 million barrels of oil equivalent, with Orlen's share exceeding 30 million boe.
Orlen CEO Ireneusz Fąfara stated that these volumes will strengthen energy security for Poland and the surrounding region, particularly amid geopolitical uncertainties. The project utilizes existing infrastructure, specifically the Skarv FPSO, which helps maintain a low carbon emission intensity of 4.5 kg per barrel.
