Norway-Poland energy cooperation and production
Overview
Equinor and Poland’s ORLEN established a three-year agreement to supply crude oil from the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian continental shelf. Starting in September, annual supplies of 5 million to over 9 million tonnes are intended to support refineries in Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic to bolster regional energy security.
Following this agreement, Orlen Upstream Norway commenced natural gas extraction from the Idun Nord field in the Norwegian Sea. The company expects to launch production from the Alve Nord and Ørn fields shortly. These assets, located in the Skarv area, are estimated to provide more than 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Orlen CEO Ireneusz Fąfara stated these volumes will strengthen energy security for Poland and the surrounding region.
