OroraTech and Eutelsat partner for satellite-based wildfire detection
OroraTech and Eutelsat have announced a partnership to develop a European-based infrastructure for global wildfire detection. The collaboration aims to combine Ororatech’s thermal sensor technology and analytics with Eutelsat’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Ororatech has reserved space for 48 thermal-infrared payloads on future Eutelsat satellites, with an option for an additional 48. By utilizing a hosted payload model, Ororatech can expand its sensor network without the necessity of financing and launching a dedicated satellite for every individual sensor. This approach is intended to increase network resilience and provide higher-frequency thermal data with lower latency.
The initiative seeks to improve the speed of forest fire detection to better support emergency services, particularly following severe fires in Europe. While the agreement establishes a deployment route, specific financial values, deployment dates, and the exact distribution of payloads across spacecraft have not been disclosed.
