Eutelsat OneWeb constellation service expansion

Overview

Eutelsat is expanding the utility and management of its OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation through new technological partnerships and software tools.

To enhance environmental monitoring, Eutelsat has partnered with OroraTech to develop a European-based infrastructure for global wildfire detection. Under this agreement, Ororatech has reserved space for 48 thermal-infrared payloads on future Eutelsat satellites, with an option for 48 more. This hosted payload model aims to provide higher-frequency thermal data with lower latency to support emergency services.

Regarding network management, Eutelsat Network Solutions and G&S SatCom launched an upgraded Online Management Tool. Designed for government users, the platform automates provisioning processes, allowing customers to plan requirements, manage permissions, and modify services rapidly.

In September 2026, Eutelsat Group CEO Jean-François Fallacher announced a major expansion of the constellation, ordering 229 additional OneWeb satellites from Airbus Defence and Space. This brings the total number of new satellites ordered to 669, representing an investment of approximately 1 billion euro intended to replenish and expand the network through 2034. On October 2, 2026, Airbus Defence and Space completed the production of the first 32 of these new satellites in Toulouse, France.

On October 6, 2026, Paratus Namibia launched Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO service to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity in Namibia. Targeting residential and commercial markets, the service offers both capped and uncapped packages. For businesses, the service provides a reliable secondary or backup connection to ensure network redundancy.

Andrew Hall, Managing Director of Paratus Namibia, stated that the company is leveraging its existing LEO experience across Africa to deliver technical expertise and competitive connectivity packages to Namibian customers.

Eutelsat aims to maintain a fleet of roughly 1,300 active OneWeb satellites by 2030, serving as a technical bridge to the European Union’s IRIS² multi-orbit network.
