Orthodox Church commemorates various saints on August 17 and 18
The Orthodox Church commemorates several significant religious figures on August 17 and 18.
On August 17, the Church honors Saint Myron, a priest from a wealthy family who dedicated his life to the poor, widows, and orphans. He was martyred around 250 AD during the reign of Emperor Decius after refusing to renounce his faith. Also commemorated on this day are Saints Straton, Philip, Eutychianos, and Cyprianos, who preached in Nicomedia, and Saint Leucius.
On August 18, the Church honors Saint Arsenios of Paros, a monk who lived an ascetic life in the Cyclades, and the twin martyrs Saint Floros and Saint Lavros. The latter were stonemasons from Byzantium who were martyred in Illyria after performing a healing miracle on a priest's son. Additionally, the day marks the commemoration of the relocation of the holy relics of Saint Arsenios.
