The Orthodox Church commemorates several religious figures on August 28, most notably Saint Moses the Ethiopian. Formerly an enslaved man who became a leader of a band of robbers, Moses underwent a radical spiritual transformation after seeking refuge in the Egyptian desert. His life is celebrated as a profound example of repentance and humility within the monastic tradition.
Other commemorations include the Martyr Saint Damon, whose memory is preserved in the Sinai Codex 631, and King Hezekiah of Judah, recognized for his piety and efforts to restore religious law. The calendar also marks the feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, a day of fasting in the Church.
