Orthodox traditions commemorate Archangel Michael and various saints on September 6

September 6 marks several religious commemorations in the Orthodox calendar, most notably the miracle of Saint Archangel Michael in Colossae, Phrygia. According to church tradition, a healing spring emerged in the region, leading to the construction of a church dedicated to the Archangel.

The tradition recounts that a man named Archip dedicated his life to serving at this site. When envious individuals attempted to divert a nearby river to flood and destroy the church, Archangel Michael is said to have intervened, directing the waters away to save the sanctuary.

Additionally, the day honors the Holy Martyrs Eudoxia, Zinon, Romil, and Macarius. The Church also commemorates the Icon of the Mother of God ‘Arapet’. In the liturgical calendar, this day is also observed as the 14th Sunday after Pentecost.
