Oruro hosts Expocamel Internacional to boost camelid livestock sector
The Expocamel Internacional 2026 has launched at the Campo Ferial Multipropósito in Oruro, Bolivia, serving as a technical and commercial hub for the camelid livestock sector. The event focuses on genetic improvement, animal health, and expanding markets for llama and alpaca fiber, leather, and meat.
Approximately 200 specimens have been registered for official judging, which evaluates morphological parameters to ensure traceability and genetic quality. The program includes scientific conferences and specialized activities such as ‘Llamafashion’.
Regional authorities and the National Federation of Camelid Producers (Fencamel) aim to use these gatherings to overcome challenges such as drought and fuel shortages. The goal is to industrialize camelid products for high-end markets, including haute couture and the food industry, while strengthening sanitary controls to facilitate international trade.
