Oruro Municipality assumes control of 2027 Carnival organization
The Autonomous Municipal Government of Oruro has approved new regulations to take direct control of the organization and administration of the 2027 Carnival of Oruro. This move follows a dispute with the Association of Folklore Groups of Oruro (ACFO), which has refused to provide the municipality with economic reports regarding sponsorship revenue received over the last decade.
Mayor Iván Quispe confirmed that the municipality will now manage the sale of spaces for grandstands along the four-kilometer carnival route. To facilitate this, the city is preparing a public tender for the construction of these grandstands, specifically inviting local companies and welding workshops that meet 5G welding standards to participate.
The decision aims to increase financial transparency for the event, which is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. While the ACFO has declared a state of emergency and maintains it is a private entity with no obligation to account for its funds, the municipal government intends to oversee the resources to ensure proper management.
