Oruro Carnival organizational dispute

Overview

The Autonomous Municipal Government of Oruro has approved new regulations to take direct control over the organization and administration of the 2027 Carnival of Oruro. This administrative shift follows a dispute with the Association of Folklore Groups of Oruro (ACFO), which has refused to provide the municipality with economic reports regarding sponsorship revenue collected over the last ten years.

Mayor Iván Quispe stated that the municipality will manage the sale of spaces for grandstands along the carnival route and is preparing a public tender for their construction. While the ACFO has declared a state of emergency and maintains it is a private entity with no obligation to account for its funds, the municipal government intends to oversee resources to increase financial transparency for the event, which is recognized by UNESCO.
