Orvieto and Soriano nel Cimino expand defibrillator network in Umbria

The municipality of Orvieto continued its "Orvieto Cardioprotetta" initiative on 5 June, placing two additional automated external defibrillators in the historic centre – at the entrance of Palazzo dei Sette and in Piazza Duomo – after having already installed seven devices in surrounding frazioni. The project is funded by the local administration together with the Cassa di Risparmio di Orvieto and includes plans to add three more units in the coming weeks, alongside training programmes for residents.

In the nearby town of Soriano nel Cimino, the "Mettici il cuore" programme concluded on 4 June 2026 with a free cardiac‑screening campaign for primary‑school students from five municipalities. A total of 434 electro‑cardiograms were performed, two defibrillators were donated to the schools in Bomarzo and Gallese, and a BLS‑D training course for 21 staff members is scheduled for 25 June. The effort, supported by local families, three charitable associations and a €7,400 budget, aims to detect silent heart conditions in young people and raise community awareness.
